Troubleshooting a gateway

After setting up a gateway and receiving audio from Zello to the radios and vice versa, you may find the audio quality is not great.

Follow the steps below in order, testing from Zello to the Radio and back after each change. Do not make all changes at once. 

1. Open "Tools"> "Options"> "Audio"

2. If you are having problems from the Radios to Zello, meaning Zello phones are receiving messages with noise or faint audio, modify:

  • Volume on the physical radio connected to the gateway
    • Turn it down if messages come in with too much noise
    • Turn it up if the volume is too faint
  • The Recording device volume
    • Turn it down if you are receiving too much noise
    • Turn it up if the volume is too low
  • The Recording Amplifier
    • Turn it down if you are receiving too much noise
    • Turn it up if the volume is too low

3. If you are having problems from Zello to the Radio, meaning the radios are receiving messages with noise or faint audio, modify:

  • The Playback device volume
    • Turn it down if you are receiving too much noise
    • Turn it up if the volume is too low
  • The Playback Amplifier
    • Turn it down if you are receiving too much noise
    • Turn it up if the volume is too low
